Steps to Take Increasing Blog Traffic

The complaints that now a days very often heard from bloggers is the fact that no matter how hard they try, they can’t grow their blogs daily page views in a reasonable state. Those early days are indeed the hardest, because you need to put hard work in without the certainty of achieving results. 

 

If you are in that same situation, here is a simple strategy that will certainly increase your blog traffic and make you break the initial tidy daily page views mark. In fact, the strategy could be used even if your are already over that number but have reached a traffic plateau lately.

Just make sure to execute the 4 steps as planned and to spend the two hours and a half every day (obviously if you have more time available you can expand the time spent on each of the four steps proportionally).

Step 1: Killer Articles

Spend one hour brainstorming, researching and writing killer articles (also called link baits, pillar articles and so on).

Notice that your goal is to release one killer article every week. If that is not possible aim for one every 15 days. So the one hour that you will spend every day will be dedicated to the same piece. In other words, expect killers articles to take from 5 up to 10 hours of work.

If you are not familiar with the term, a killer article is nothing more than a long and structured article that has the goal of delivering a huge amount of value to potential visitors. If you have a web design blog, for example, you could write an article with “100 Free Resources for Designers”. Here are some ideas for killer articles:

• create a giant list of resources,
• write a detailed tutorial teaching people how to do something,
• find a solution for a common problem in your niche and write about it, or
• write a deep analysis on a topic where people have only talked superficially

When visitors come across your killer article, you want them to have the following reaction: “Holy crap! This is awesome. I better bookmark it. Heck, I better even mention this on my site and on my Twitter account, to let my readers and friends know about it.” 

Step 2: Networking

 

Networking is essential, especially when you are just getting started. The 30 minutes that you will dedicate to it every day could be split among:

• commenting on other blogs in your niche,
• linking to the posts of bloggers in your niche, and
• interacting with the bloggers in your niche via email, IM or Twitter.

Remember that your goal is to build genuine relationships, so don’t approach people just because you think they can help to promote your blog. Approach them because you respect their work and because you think the two of you could grow together.

Step 3: Promotion

The first activity here is the promotion of your killer articles. Whenever you publish one of them, you should push it in any way you can. Examples include:

• letting the people in your network know about it (don’t beg for a link though),
• letting bloggers and webmasters in relevant niches know about it,
• getting some friends to submit the article to social bookmarking sites,
• getting some friends to Twitter the article, and
• posting about the article in online forums and/or newsgroups.

If there is time left, spend it with search engine optimization, social media marketing and activities to promote your blog as whole. Those can range from keyword research to promoting your blog on Facebook and guest blogging.

Step 4: Normal Posts

Just like a man does not live by bread alone, a blog does not live by killer articles alone. Normal posts are the ones that you will publish routinely in your blog, between the killer articles. For example, you could publish a killer article every Monday and normal posts from Tuesday through Friday. Here are some ideas for normal posts:

• a post linking to an article on another blog and containing your opinion about it
• a post informing your readers about a news in your niche
• a post asking a question to your readers and aiming to initiate a discussion
• a post highlighting a new resource or trick that you discovered and that would be useful to your readers

While killers articles are essential to promote your blog and bring new readers aboard, normal posts are the ones that will create diversity in your content and keep your readers engaged.

One popular post can bring your more traffic and links than a month’s worth of your usual content.

In this post, I want to set you a challenge with the potential to launch your blog into the stratosphere.

The following tips form my key advice for tackling this task. I used all of them when hitting the Digg front page for the first time. There’s no blueprint you can follow to write an incredibly popular post, but you won’t have a chance unless you try. I’m confident these tips will give you a good shot at success.

•  Use your best idea. A post will never become wildly popular unless it fulfills a need, and does so emphatically. What’s something your niche wants but hasn’t got yet? Can you assemble a whole lot of really awesome (targeted) resources in one place? The more your posts helps people, the better it will do.

•  Time is more important than talent. Work on something for eight hours and you can bet it will be good. You don’t need to spend that long, however (though that’s how long it took me to craft the first post I wrote that hit the Digg front page). More time means you can refine, format and fill your post with plenty of value. Take the time to really craft your content. It will show in the finished product.

• Brainstorm headlines. There are probably one or two bloggers who’ve completely mastered the art of writing headlines for social media (you’ll know who they are). The rest of us haven’t been blessed with such skills. When you see a great headline, chances are it’s option #12 of a dozen choices. Few of us can think of a great headline straight away. Spend ten minutes brainstorming and you’re bound to stumble across something that works. A weak headline will cripple your post’s chances of success. It’s essential that you put a lot of work into getting it right.

•  Use formatting to your advantage. These days, social media is key when it comes to launching your posts into the stratosphere. Social media users are notoriously spoiled for choice, however. Use formatting to emphasize the best aspects of your post. Hone in on your funniest lines, your most profound bits of advice, your best resources. Make them stand out.

•  Invest plenty of value in your post. Ever bookmarked or voted for something without completely reading it? We’ve all done it. It’s because of the ‘Wow’ factor — the presence of enough promised value in one place gets the reader enthusiastic about the post straight away. Instead of 5 tips, why not share 50? Instead of 9 resources, why not 40 or more?

• Tell them what you’re going to tell them. Readers will skip your waffle introduction. You can say the same in less words, particularly when you’re writing for an impatient reader: someone who wants to get straight into your tips/resources/opinions. Use your introduction to highlight why the reader should stick with your post. There’s a reason my post introductions mainly consist of: “In this post, I’m going to do this, this and that.” It’s what people really want to know: what am I getting in exchange for my attention?

•  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If your post looks good, it will draw readers in. Take the time to add images, thumbnails and formatting to what you create. Make your post a visual feast. With so much web content presented in a bland way, your post is guaranteed to stand out.

•  Send messages with links. The best way to get a blogger to investigate your blog is by linking to them. We’ve got a natural desire to know what’s being said about us. If your post becomes really popular, each link inside it should send enough traffic outwards to be worth investigating. Be generous with your outbound links when writing your most popular post. It gives other bloggers an incentive to link to you, because it’s ultimately more promotion for them.

•  Utilize your network. If you want people to Digg, Stumble or Reddit your post, there’s no reason why you need to sit back with fingers crossed and hope it happens. Ask them. Your loyal readers like you. You entertain them, or teach them, or help them. If voting is a simple matter of clicking a link they’ll be more than happy to do so. Ask for votes in your post and email readers and social media influences. In most cases you will need to get the snowball rolling. After that, others will do most of the work for you.

•  Research what you are going to do worked before. Study your most popular posts so far. What’s common about them? Why did they work? What needs did they address? In creating your most popular post, it’s important to learn by example and build on what has worked for your blog in the past. Another good idea is to analyze the most popular posts on other blogs in your niche. Why did they work? What’s remarkable about them? You can transfer those qualities over into what you write.

অনলাইনে কাজের প্রকারভেদ

ফ্রিল্যান্সিং এ কয়েকটি গুরুত্ত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়

ফ্রিল্যান্স মার্কেটপ্লেস সাইটে কতগুলো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় আছে যা ভালভাবে না জানার কারণে অনেকে সফলভাবে ফ্রিল্যান্সিং শুরু করতে পারেন না। নিচে এরকম কয়েকটি বিষয় আলোকপাত করা হল:


রেটিং (Rating) - একটি কাজ সম্পন্ন হবার পর ক্লায়েন্ট কাজের ফলাফলের উপর ভিত্তি করে প্রোভাইডারকে ১ থেকে ১০ এর মধ্যে রেটিং দেয়। এখানে সর্বোত্তকৃষ্ট রেটিং হচ্ছে ১০ এবং সর্বনিম্ন রেটিং হচ্ছে ১। নতুন কাজ পাবার ক্ষেত্রে এই রেটিং খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে থাকে। তাই সবসময় ১০ রেটিং পাওয়ার জন্য প্রজেক্টের রিকোয়ারমেন্ট পরিপূর্ণভাবে এবং দক্ষতার সাথে সম্পন্ন করা উচিত।


রেংকিং (Ranking) - একটি ফ্রিল্যান্সিং সাইটে রেজিষ্ট্রেশনকৃত সকল প্রোভাইডারের মধ্যে একজন নির্দিষ্ট প্রোভাইডারের অবস্থান কত তা জানা যায় রেংকিং এর মাধ্যমে। সাধারণত একজন প্রোভাইডারের গড় রেটিং এবং সে কত বেশি ডলারের কাজ করেছে তার উপর ভিত্তি করে রেংকিং নির্ধারণ করা হয়। রেটিং এর মত রেংকিংও নতুন কাজ পাবার ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে থাকে। যার রেংকিং যত সামনের দিকে তার কাজ পাবার সম্ভাবনা অন্যদের চাইতে বেশি।


ডেডলাইন (Deadline) - প্রত্যেক প্রজেক্ট শেষ করার একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময়সীমা বা ডেডলাইন সময় থাকে। এই সময়ের পূর্বে অবশ্যই কাজ শেষ করতে হয়। কোন প্রোভাইডার যদি ডেডলাইনের পূর্বে কাজ শেষ করতে না পারে তাহলে বায়ার ইচ্ছে করলে তাকে কোন মূল্য পরিশোধ না করে সম্পন্ন কাজটি নিয়ে যেতে পারে। উপরন্তু ক্লায়েন্ট সেই প্রোভাইডারকে একটি নিম্নমানের রেটিং দিয়ে দিতে পারে। তাই কোন প্রজেক্টের ডেডলাইন সময় প্রয়োজনের তুলনায় কম হলে কাজ শুরুর পূর্বেই বায়ারকে অনুরোধ করে বাড়িয়ে নেয়া উচিত।


মেডিএশন/আর্বিট্রেশন (Mediation/Arbitration) - একটি প্রজেক্ট চলাকালীন সময় বায়ার এবং প্রোভাইডারের মধ্যে কোন সমস্যা হলে তা সমাধানের জন্য মেডিএশন এর ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে। এই পদ্ধতিতে সাইটের যথাযথ কতৃপক্ষ উভয় পক্ষের সাথে আলোচনা করে এবং সমাধানের কার্যকরী পদক্ষেপ নেয়।


এসক্রো (Escrow) - কাজ শুরু করার পর ক্লায়েন্ট কাজের সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ ওই ফ্রিল্যান্সিং সাইটে জমা রাখে। এই জমা রাখাকে বলা হয় এসক্রো যা কাজ সম্পন্ন হবার পর কোডারের টাকা পাবার সম্ভাবনা নিশ্চিত করে। ক্লায়েন্ট টাকা এসক্রোতে জমা রাখা পূর্বে কাজ শুরু করা উচিত নয়।
 

অর্থ উত্তোলনের উপায়সমূহ

কাজ সম্পন্ন হবার পর প্রোভাইডারের পাওনা অর্থ ফ্রিল্যান্সিং সাইটের একাউন্টে জমা থাকে। মাসের শেষে বা মাসের মাঝামাঝি সময়ে সর্বমোট অর্থ বিভিন্ন উপায়ে দেশে নিয়ে আসা যায়। এখানে টাকা উত্তোলনের কয়েকটি কার্যকর পদ্ধতি নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করা হল:


Snail Mail Check
এই পদ্ধতিতে খরচ তুলনামূলকভাবে কম কিন্তু এটি সময়সাপেক্ষ পদ্ধতি। মোট আয় যদি ১০০ ডলারের এর উপর হয় তাহলে চিঠির মাধ্যমে একটি চেক পাঠিয়ে দেয়া হয়। প্রতিবার টাকা উত্তোলনে খরচ পড়ে মাত্র ১০ ডলার। তবে চিঠি আসতে কয়েক সপ্তাহ সময় লেগে যেতে পারে। আর চেকটি আসবে ডলার-এ, তাই এটিকে টাকাতে রূপান্তর করতে হলে ব্যাংকের সাহায্য নিতে হবে।


Bank to Bank Wire Transfer
টাকা উত্তোলনের একটি নির্ভরযোগ্য ও নিরাপদ উপায় হচ্ছে ওয়্যার ট্রান্সফার। এই পদ্ধতিতে মাস শেষে ৩ থেকে ৫ দিনের মধ্যে সম্পূর্ণ টাকা সরাসরি প্রোভাইডারের ব্যাংক একাউন্টে এসে জমা হয়ে যায়। তবে এই পদ্ধতিতে চার্জ একটু বেশি - প্রতিবার টাকা উত্তোলনে ৪৫ থেকে ৫৫ ডলার খরচ পড়বে। এই পদ্ধতিতে টাকা উত্তোলন করতে হলে নিম্নে উল্লেখিত তথ্যগুলো ফ্রিল্যান্সিং সাইটে প্রদান করতে হবে:
•প্রোভাইডারের ব্যাংক একাউন্ট নাম্বার, ব্যাংক এর ঠিকানা এবং ব্যাংকের SWIFT Code

উপরের দুটি পদ্ধতি থেকে সবচাইতে দ্রুত পদ্ধতি হচ্ছে Payoneer Debit Card । সম্প্রতি প্রায় সকল ফ্রিল্যান্সিং সাইটগুলো এই MasterCard সার্ভিসটি চালু করেছে। এই পদ্ধতিতে মাস শেষে আপনি টাকা খুবই দ্রুত পৃথিবীর যেকোন স্থান থেকে ATM এর মাধ্যমে উত্তোলন করতে পারেন। এজন্য এককালীন খরচ পড়বে ২০ ডলার আর সাইটির মাসিক ব্যবস্থাপনা ফি ৩ ডলার। ATM থেকে প্রতিবার টাকা উত্তোলনের জন্য খরচ পড়বে ২.১৫ ডলার + উত্তোলনকৃত অর্থের ৩%। এই কার্ড দিয়ে টাকা উত্তোলনের পাশাপাশি অনলাইনে কেনাকাটাও করতে পারবেন। এমনকি এর মাধ্যমে বিদেশে অবস্থিত আপনার কোন আত্মীয় বা বন্ধুবান্ধব তাদের মাস্টারকার্ড বা ভিসা কার্ড থেকে আপনাকে টাকা পাঠাতে পারবে। পেওনার সাইট থেকে সরাসরি এই কার্ডের জন্য আবেদন করা যায় না। এটি পেতে হলে ফ্রিল্যান্সিং যে কোন একটি সাইট (রেন্ট-এ-কোডার, গেট-এ-ফ্রিল্যান্সার বা ওডেস্ক) থেকে আবেদন করলে ২০ থেকে ৩০ দিনের মধ্যে এই কার্ডটি হাতে পাওয়া যায়।
